Not so strange. The Big 4 have few choices for these types of contracts since they would have a hard time maintaining independence while having such a large relationship if they were still their auditors. What is strange though is that there is still a derivative suit against Deloitte related to their activities with Nortel. Pending litigation, where your former client is your adversary, should make a business relationship with your former client, even in "normal course" also an independence issue.
