    Nortel Enterprise / Avaya deal - when will it close... yawn...

    So, rumors that the Warren Act (US) was enabled in Richardson, TX location as a result of the number of people that ultimately will be laid off in Enterprise as a result of the closing of the Avaya deal? True? I am hearing people are receiving letters (starting yesterday) in the mail stating they won't be employed as of Jan 1? Can anyone confirm?

    Yes, my husband got one. I think everyone got one in Richardson whether you are getting an offer from Avaya or not.

    So far, however, I have only heard of 2 cases. Both confirmations came from current Enterprise employees... Hmmmm... Anyone else?

    so do you know alot of people in Enterprise? What are you trying to say? Do you know people in Enterprise in Richardson that didn't get one?

    I am one of those people. Trying to determine is it just Richardson, is it just Enterprise or just what the heck it is. If one is in Enterprise, you'd think an email would have been sent or something. If the Warren Act was in affect, you'd also think there is something public as well. I'm like you - trying to figure out what the h*ll is going on...

    Maybe you know my husband then LOL. He told me that CA & TX are the only 2 states that have the Warren Act or something like that. I had been led to believe that my husband's dept. would definitely be going to Avaya.

    I thought you were either given an offering letter from the new buyer or you were not. If you were not I assume that means you will be laid off. I assume the people getting letters in the mail saying they are done jan 1st at nortel were not given an offering letter from avaya.

    Not following you here. You are saying you were not given an offering letter from the buyer. Therefore you are being laid off by the sounds of it. What's the confusing part?

    Talking to Enterprise peers. Supposedly offers have been handed out over the last 2 weeks and this week is the last of the offer handouts. Info is only as good as this: I had heard it from a handful of Enterprise employees... Again, is Hack saying anything? Nope

    In the GIS last week, according to the business ops guy (Dave ??) who's in charge of the transition, the offer letters will be sent out up until mid Nov.
    However he also said , they are waiting for some offer rejections (fat chance) and fill those with lowly peons.

    It makes sense that if you don't get an offer by end this week, either you will be laid-off or perhaps moved to NBS run by Hack's protege Flanagan.

    offer letter means you are hired. otherwise it means you are fired which is the Nortel letter.

    Some people in Canada have been given up to 3 months notice and others were given extra vacation pay..... all depends how generous the manager or HR prime is

    That means that, according to government's take on Cerberus' take, the company needs to keep pay high so it can keep good people so it can close in two years.

    Excuse me but if those running what is left of Nortel want to save some money....then why do they still have a group labeled as the "Ethics Department"? If it were truly functional there would have been a lot of the ELT and other management team out in the street. Lay the ethics folks off now....and be ehtical about it....same severance package as the others have gotten.

    Here in Italy the Administrators and local management are preparing for Avaya a very nice deal :-)

    Following "Nortel's way" of doing things they're laying off most of the remained engineeers in order to save places for senior management staff. Well done.

    I cannot believe these guys are still talking about ACE. I think its kind of like everyone hopes that they actually have something, but nothing is really there. Its kind of sad. Avaya won't put up with that for very long. Once they realize that the Emperor has no clothes on (the emperor being ACE) they will shut that waste of money down like Nortel should have several years ago. They have probably spent >100M of R&D on ACE and have nothing to show for it other then some demos that an intern could of whipped up...

    Hilarious....and so true. The only apps I saw coming out of ACE were the kind of things that are being sold for 99 cents in the iTunes AppStore. "click here to make a voice call".....oooooohhhhh.....you mean, like what I can do in Yahoo IM for free?

    From what I saw, ACE has made Nortel about a hundred bucks in revenue this year.

    In my mind ACE represents one of the crown jewels of Nortel technology.

    While initially targeting 1000 users, HSBC plans to expand this ACE application across the globe, a strong testament to the value proposition delivered by Nortel ACE.

    To me, the business value of Unified Communications comes when UC is integrated into business processes leveraging vendor-agnostic integration software such as Nortel's ACE. It's all about accelerating these business processes by reducing human latency.

    • Multi-vendor environments (Avaya is paying lip service to multi-vendor, but there's no reference to anything but Avaya)

    Avaya is just now... On the other hand, Nortel totally...

    In contrast, the Nortel Agile Communication Environment (ACE) is ..

    Nortel is the Crown Jewel of Avaya.

    You obviously must work on the ACE team... the IVR product in Nortel was multi-vendor since day one. The ACE team came along and spent >100 M to reinvent something that already existed. The ACE team throws a web service around something and thinks they have added business value. The proof is in the pudding. ACE is been around for over 3 years and its generated virtually no revenue.. Tell me you have a crown jewel when you build something that someone actually buys.. demos don't count...

    yeah ACE is new.. so its gets a pass.. it has only been around for > 3 years and invested a fortune in R&D.... the crazies are running the insane asylum..
